Idyllic forests, endless fields, orchards and meadows, natural lakes: A walking holiday at the Landhotel Weidenbrück, close to the Eifel and in the Rhineland Nature Park, presents you with a wide range of different landscapes. They include moated castles and fairytale castles, half-timbered houses and 2,000-year-old stones that bear witness to times gone by. Few walking holidays offer quite so much variety.

Rhineland Apple Route

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. We certainly have plenty of this healthy fruit: 3 million apple trees grow in this area – it’s apple heaven!. Walk along the Rhineland Apple Route with its various activity stations, information boards, farm stores and farm cafés. And as always, we'd be more than happy to Do you know who brought apples to Europe? The Romans. And you will also come across their traces during your walking holiday.

A nature reserve for more than 60 years

Rhineland Nature Park — Kottenforst

Right next to our hotel, walkers can explore the Kotten forest area – the Rhineland Nature Park – with its fascinating fauna and flora. Walks and hikes in the 1,130 m nature reserve with its numerous pools and lakes soothe the soul. A curious natural monument is the "imperial oak". It was planted in 1904 by the later Kaiser Wilhelm II "by his very own hands".

In the footsteps of ancient engineers

Over 100 km long, the Roman Canal aquaduct brought fresh Eifel water from Nettersheim to Cologne. Following in the footsteps of ancient water engineers, you will hike along the 2,000-year-old canal through varied landscapes and come across Roman remains.

In the Eifel, the stars still shine particularly brightly. For this fascinating stretch of land is sparsely populated and the air is very clean. The sheer endless expanse of nature with great views is made for hiking – including the primeval forest of tomorrow, the Eifel National Park. Nature is particularly powerful in the Eifel – it has even produced volcanoes. In the Eifel you can also walk in the footsteps of the past, such as visiting the Roman Baths in Zülpich and the LVR Open-Air Museum in Kommern, one of the largest open-air museums in Europe.
