Once the capital of Germany and residence of the Cologne Electors, Bonn is now a pleasant city of culture with its baroque buildings and fascinating array of museums. The "star of the city" is Ludwig van Beethoven, who is duly honoured with the Beethoven House. It is also worth visiting Bonn Cathedral, the Old Town Hall and Poppelsdorf Palace with the Botanical Garden.

The nearest castle is just a stone's throw from Hotel Weidenbrück. Satzvey Castle is considered one of the most beautiful (25 min.). Augustusburg Palace and Falkenlust Hunting Lodge are outstanding examples of the Rococo and Baroque periods and a World Heritage Site (25 min.). Burg Konradsheim (17 min.) is completely preserved as a late medieval moated castle. And these are just a few of 120 castles and stately homes in the region.
Blue as far as the eye can see: The Ville lake district combines several (nature protected) lakes. Some of them have beautiful bathing areas, such as at Haider Lake, Liblar Lake and Bleibtreu Lake. At the latter there is even a water ski facility, which we often visit as a family for wakeboarding and stand-up paddling.
